Frank's Kitcar (A 550 Spyder replica)
"...A bare heart in the midst of naked technology
- up to your neck in bare metal.
Spartan equipment, single-syllable feelings - as a time machine,
the Spyder makes clear what an unbelievably fleet-footed automobile
it must have been in the 1950's..."

Peter Vann - 'Fantastic Porsche'

My little red 550 Spyder replica, built from VW parts, looks and runs like the real thing but for a tiny fraction of the cost. A Typ1 1600cc, dual carburetors, 4 cylinder boxer mid-motor provides quite enough power for a top speed of 196 km/h combined with a stunning low 7.5 liters per 100 km consumption (unleaded). As the exhaust pipe is very short by design the full sound of the motor can be experienced, also some kind of 'resonance' phenomenon that does sound both nice and loud - unheard of any of the new cars of today. It is very agile due to its low weight of about 570 kg and conforms to the European environment standard E2.

As of 29. September 2009 this page is only active for historic reasons. I sold my car today to another kitcar enthusiast. May it run forever!
